Dear U.S.-born citizens,
Before we talk about immigration, I want you to do something simple.
Find your U.S. passport.
Hold it in your hands.
Then ask yourself:
What makes this little blue book so valuable that millions of people around the world dream of having one?
Why are so many people willing to risk everything for the opportunity to one day hold a U.S. passport?
To you, it may just be a passport. But to millions of people around the world, it’s something they dream of having. It can represent safety, new opportunities, and the chance to build a better life.
Before we start learning together, I have one ground rule.
On this blog, I ask that we don’t use the term “illegal immigrant.” Instead, I’ll use “undocumented immigrant” or “undocumented person.” I believe these terms are more respectful because a person’s immigration status should not define who they are.
This blog isn’t here to tell you what to think or what political opinion to have. It’s here to help you understand how the U.S. immigration system works using simple language, facts, history, and real stories.
So, if you’re ready to learn something new…
let’s begin
